Longings Flame

Longings Flame

A Poem by Rikkevi Rue
"

A nod to that which drives us

"

Seared from within by longings flame

clutching for life to a tiger's mane

wearied head hung, desperate game

tempered by the gains of learning

bursting from my chest in yearning

spurred to excel by the ache there burning

blinded eyes met squinting, sun

dreams afar yet searching, run

fulfillment seeking, never done

youth born vision, striving on

hope subdued yet back, each dawn

driven, vain achievers pawn

odds that favor, believers math

hidden view, the future path

humility’s insightful laugh

humility’s insightful laugh…

you~my friend~are one of a handful of 21st century writers I know who not only handle classic rhythmic patterns flawlessly but know how to subtly insert personalized seedlets of unique expressive surreality that makes comprehensive emotional sense flawlessly~

an ode to desire, the first principle of conscious life, a desire which propels us to heights, when it doesn't get stuck in the mire. You have captured that duality in subtle tones that speak mellifluous volumes!

Great flow to this one. I think that you are quite adept at creating a good beat and tempo and carrying it throughout, which gives your work a bit of a classic feel with a modern edge. I like your style, and this piece is no exception.

youth born vision, striving on
hope subdued yet back, each dawn
driven, vain achievers pawn -- my favorite stanza...felt very real and sounded great read aloud.

sublime in it's lyrical content..your smooth rhythmic meter and rhyme is a pleasure to read..this coupled with the fact that you still maintain an interesting and thoughtful read is really a pleasure..there's a depth to this ..loved it
