Archer of the Heart

Archer of the Heart

silly writing just for fun to follow where it leads...

Archer of the Heart                                                                 24 Oct 2010

Bow she drew with sinews flexing

flexing her hickory hunter's harp

harp of the arcane fickle lover

lover with faith’s tender start

start like the sprout of a budding leaf

leaf on a tree so tall and stark

stark like the lonely stand of hickory

hickory limbs to make a harp

harp with the bowtips carved so sharp

sharp as the pain that squeezed her heart

heart with strings her fingers drew

drew like the hemp of a lovers harp

harp of the heart that strung her bow

bow whose winsome arrows sung

sung the low thrilled song of love

love swam the veins into his heart

heart of one shot by her Archers bow

bow of the arrows flew loves start.

Arrows of love that fled her bow

bow of an elfin maiden fairy

fairy from deep in a magic forest

forest hidden deep and dark

dark as the lonely glade inside

inside his heart in a distant land

land of the lost and sorrowed man

man was once a powerful king

king of many wondrous things

things like castles, motes and towers,

towers, fertile fields and flowers,

flowers grown and bloomed in love

love that lay in his tower above

above the daily push and shove

shove of the work to tend the fields

fields of wine and crops to yield

yield like love to her tender fingers

fingers guiding thoughts that linger

linger on those delicate strings.

Flight of her arrow feathers guided

guided true to his breast so bold

bold as the heart that beat inside

inside the chest of the King of All

all that stood below those walls

walls beyond her forest halls

halls within which creatures danced

danced for the dream of sweet romance

romance flown on the forest breezes

breezes tossed on the summer air

air that sang for a fairy maiden

maiden with the mystic light

light of the hallowed moon so bright

bright as dreams beneath the moon

moon with beams as pale as ivory

ivory as smooth as her perfect skin

skin that sang beneath his fingers

fingers that struck a perfect tune

tune that echoed in his castle

castle echoing the minstrels lute

lute that carried the song of beauty

beauty that bloomed across the fields

fields that stood before the forest

forest to which her lover steals

Steals her ardor steals her fire

fire that burned in his veins at night

night when the candles lit a light

light of the dreamlit fairies flight

flight to the hearth of his firelight burning
burning for love that called his name

name that would later sing in legend

legend of a king whose love was slain

slain by the barb of a fairies arrow

arrow that drew his blood in vain

vain as the love of an elfin fairy

fairy who loved a man arcane

arcane as the whistley shadows

shadows in her forest lane

lane where she shot her lovers arrow

arrow that flew from the strings inside

inside her aching lonely heart

heart of a maiden stolen away

away to the castle cold and hard

hard as the shaft of her elfin arrow

arrow to keep his love forever

forever hers to keep apart

apart from his castles, motes and towers

towers keeping them apart

apart with each their lonely heart

heart that her arrow tore apart…

I love to read fairy tales. especially when reality is too much to bear..
Thanks for taking me on a mind clearing adventure...ripe with both romance and a little violence..exciting
This poem reminds me of how I feel when I read Longfellow for some reason?
Or perhaps William Blake...?
anyway, I enjoyed reading it

excellent use of the last~first connective to blend poetic into pure fluid movement~
the poetic stands strong and vivid in its storytelling imagery as it is with a solid ending that invites the audience to imagine the rest~much enjoyed this~
