2nd Sonnet

humorous view of religions assertions about death

2nd Sonnet                                       16 Nov 2010

Is death no more than “flesh doth rot below”

but serves to grace some mantle- ornate urn,

no ghost or soul or spirit- wraith to show

no “up to Hea’n” nor “down to hell to burn?”

Some whistle past the grave and worry not,

some worry to the grave and whistle nil,

but rare ’s the man who never weighed in thought

what price his deeds when death presents the bill.

Still scriptures teach for some that Heaven waits

and plenty heed godspel and strive to learn

the path may lead them up- despite their faith,

in deference to a fate where sinners burn.

Though Science claims materialism rules,

Folklore contends all those who scoff are fools!

it is true that with today's technology and a fast-paced life little people have faith. they don't think about today's actions and how it will affect them in the afterlife. however there are some who consider all that biblical hellfire brimstone beliefs of heaven and hell are just folklore. it doesn't matter who's side your on, we should always be mindful of our actions at least for today if not for tomorrow.

Whatever you want, I reviewed it. Haha
I enjoyed the read. I recently suggested to a friend that he try writing sonnets. See how it goes. I think yours went well. Thanks for sharing.
