Hi Richard,
Found this lovely (truthful) Sonnet while working on my computer ... here on a short vacation.
I totally believe that vows are not what is important in keeping a marriage (relationship) together.
The only thing, in my opinion, that helps a "love affair' to continue is communication.
I have been known to say of my relationships ... "Whats love got to do with it." I know that sounds harsh..But for me being around for as long as I have and having been married...well, a few times .. I have come to realise that, and again for me, true love is actually a truthful relationship. So, with that I feel vows are useless...easy to say but not so easy to live by. Respect for me is a more accurate word to describe a good marriage. Not trying to control ones partner, etc. Life is too short to play games...As time with a partner flows by ones love grows or diminishes. Hopefully, it grows and then one can truthfully say..Hey "I have fallen in love with you!"

Right after I wrote my rather long message I thought "Oh no, what about the poem!" and, was just coming back to review it.
I really enjoyed the theme...well, that is why I got carried away with my own thoughts. I believe that when a poem is excellent (as yours always are!) they tend to stir up many emotions...which is good...right ...
Your beautiful Sonnet and, oh so perfect Image inspired me to write. I studied every line with hopes of really understanding the rhyming... I do have one quick question. For me I see the perfect rhyme on every line except for hi and sky and side and lied. They sound perfect but because they are not a perfect match does this mean they are considered slant rhymes?

Your words of expressed enjoyment, emotional connection, and a very nice compliment make writing and sharing my poems feel so worthwhile.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
True love never fades, but prehaps it learns to accept and adjust. The stunningly beautiful Sonnet that tugs at the heart.Felt deeply within as many of your words ring true.

Your touch my heart.
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But, if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires: To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
When love beckons to you, follow; though, its ways are hard and steep, and when love's wings enfold you, yield to them; though, the sword hidden among its pinions may wound you, and when love speaks to you believe; though, its voice may shatter your dreams, as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For, even as love crowns you so shall it crucify you. Even as love is for your growth, so is it for your pruning … even as love ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun ⁓ so shall love descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth. Kahlil Gibran
Bless thee true and sweet, in all things under your sun and stars … warmest blessings! ⁓ Richard 🍃

Meaningful composition, one which many of your readers would relate and even give their own version of a reply...."True love will stay with thee. Though in the shadows be. Passion grows ~ it never dies. If in a sincere heart it lies. The tweed it wove ~ in hearts of gold:
may it live forever ~ never grow cold!"

Richard, this is extraordinary because it so well captures the reality of vows between two. Time has a way of eroding promised bonds, especially when one or both abuse or deceive the other. Tattered often we are, the most loyal.

This is what happens the most to people with the heart of sincerity.
They made a promise, with integrity they kept their vow but later realize that those they think would appreciate their loyalty are just to have been taken suspect in the first place.
This is truly a heartfelt poem, Sir.
