RHYME ROYAL
The Rhyme Royal (or Rime Royal) is a rhyming stanza form that was introduced into English poetry by Geoffrey Chaucer in the Late Middle Ages (c1000-1500 AD). The Rhyme Royal stanza consists of seven lines in iambic pentameter. The rhyme scheme is a-b-a-b-b-c-c. In practice, the stanza can be constructed either as a Tercet and two Couplets (a-b-a, b-b, c-c) or a Quatrain and a Tercet (a-b-a-b, b-c-c). This allows for variety, especially when the form is used for longer narrative poems, such as the Canterbury Tales. Along with the couplet, it became the standard narrative metre (or meter) in the Late Middle Ages.

Like always the imagery you present is so clear in my mind. I too take great delight in love found on a starlit night. The holding and loving one close, close enough to feel their warmth, to feel their heart beat. I love the "math" where one plus one is ONE!
I am not familiar with all the intricacies of writing. I shudder to tell you that I failed freshman English while in college.

Beautiful. (I need to find a new adjective, I use this one a lot.)
Not all love poems interest me, but I like this one.
I think I've done this form, I'll have to try and find it.

That you found favor with this original work is gratification and encouragement beyond that which a hopeful bard could have wished for, but I'm holding-on to it tightly … LOL!
You, loving anything I wrote soars me to the stars … big hugs! ⁓ Richard
Beautiful, romantic, heartfelt words that paint a gentle picture in the reader's mind. Normally I'm reserved about poetry with glowing messages of love (not realistic to me) . . . but becuz the overall scenario is vividly shown, this enhances the experience greatly.

How wonderful for me you decided to make an exception to your normal reservations about love poems, leaving such a beautifully bountiful review (in itself, a sort of love poem).
I cannot thank you sufficiently for the feelings you've gifted me from your own "enhanced experience".

I adore this poem! Apart from the amazing usage of Rime Royal, the vibrant nature in the poem! The Image is so rich similar to the love described in the poem! It's like constellations came forth and merged with their emotions, I love it! thank you for an amazing poetry, and of course for the lesson! It's just splendid!

It is You that is "splendid!" … most grateful hugs to you, Dear Poetess! ⁓ Richard
A lovely piece; I love the scene you've pained of a starlit night down by the pond - personally, I imagine the water calm and lit by a silvery glow (your writing really brings the readers own imagination into the picture). As well as praising the poem, I would also like to thank you for showing me another form of poetry (the Rhyme Royal) and adding the word "spake" to my vocabulary.

Your warm and generous compliments, praise, and shared imagery assure me we've connected on the meaningful level I always hope my poetry will with my readers … how gratifying your review truly is, My Friend.
For the new word and helpful instructions, you are most welcome, and I thank you (again) for making this work so rewarding to share.
I would enjoy nothing more than reading your own Rhyme Royal … blessings to you! ⁓ Richard
'.. Twas in that moment, shined the brightest light - into my heart - and love was ours that night.'
Your selected picture is absolutely beautiful, thus, draws the reviewer to read the words beneath it. And, your words are as beautiful. This is such a fine use of the Rime Royal.. an old and most elegant structure/style that is - as far as I know, rarely used these days. We can learn so much from the past. As to the Canterbury Tales, am English!!

How wonderful of you to visit this lover's dream, rendered in Rime Royal form.
The very lines you've singled-out speak most powerfully and tenderly unto my core … it greatly pleases me they've touched you, too.
Thank you for the picture compliment … your sentiments are fully shared; it is from Wikimedia Commons, which I must remember to give credit for in the Author's Note.
Thank you, too, Em, for regarding my words as "beautiful". What deeper satisfaction and gratification could a hopeful bard wish in return for his earnest labours to write, share, and please those who are apt to perceive them, as *You have.
I think you must be correct, in that one seldom comes across writers who compose in this lovely form from antiquity. I would love to read one you've created … I can only imagine how wondrous it would be.
I think the power of a beautiful poetic form never grows olde, and I thank you most sincerely for sharing this one with me … warmest blessings! ⁓ Richard
A very loveable rhyme royal! This is the first time I've come across "one 'n whole", but thinking about it I realize that it has the same meaning as "one 'n all" . Weather permitting, I'm out under the stars nightly, the one (me) bonding with all the stars, the whole night sky (the whole universe). Before writing my rhyme royal, I read one by Shakespeare; this evening, by contrast, I read W.H .Auden's Letter to Lord Byron, a lengthy but entertaining and comic string of rhyme royals. Thanks for the extra information on this poetic form. It's been a long time since I read the Cantebury Tales; I shall have to revisit.

The meaning of "bond one 'n whole" is that the two lovers will completely become one entity, one combined and melded being.
Hopefully, your weather will allow clear and pristine viewing of the stars and universe to the naked eye, thereby, bonding your poet's mind, heart, soul "one 'n whole" that we might reap the depth and beauty of it all form the eloquence of your golden pen.
May your revisit to the Canterbury Tales prove to be a glorious reunion.
Thank "you", Roland, and you are most welcome for that which I've shared here, or anything you might wish that I can fulfill … blessings to you, My Fine friend! ⁓ Richard
