Richard,
It is enjoyable to learn and see a little about a form which I have always enjoyed. Your take on the limerick is surly a good example. It's really nice to be informed of how to go about doing it as I read your response as well as featured review and author's note. I wish you continued enjoyment in your writing and teaching
Bless you bunches.

This is not mine:
There once was a fella from Leeds
who swallowed a packet of seeds
in less than an hour
his arse was a flower
and his balls were covered in seeds :)

I'm so glad we could have fun with this together … I always smile after reading it.
Hmmm, well, it's good, but from what I understand, a limerick has a distinct series of stressed and unstressed syllables. You have the last word of lines 1, 2, & 5 ending with a BA boom sound, and lines 3 & 4 ending with a ba BOOM sound. To be a limerick, lines 1, 2, & 5 should sound like ba BOOM ba ba BOOM ba ba BOOM, and lines 3 & 4 should sound like ba BOOM ba ba BOOM. But I could be wrong.
Thanks, Karen, for reading this fun little piece and for the compliment, Karen! : )

You are not wrong for a Free Limerick, and, yes, I've ended some lines trochaic, and I assume you are referring to iambics with "baBOOM", and you would be correct, if mine were a Free Limerick, but it is an English Limerick … see rules below:
Limerick (in general)
A limerick is a humorous poem consisting of five lines.
The first, second, and fifth lines must have seven to ten syllables, while rhyming and having the same verbal rhythm.
The third and fourth lines only have to have five to seven syllables, and have to rhyme with each other and have the same rhythm.
Limerick (English)
A humorous poem of five lines with a rhyme scheme of a-a-b-b-a
Lines 1, 2, and 5 have a syllable-count of nine, while lines 3 and 4 have six-syllables each.
Limerick (Free)
The rhyme scheme of a Free Limerick is a-a-b-b-a, and there is no set meter or syllables. A lines are iambic tetrameter and B lines are iambic trimeter.
Often times, the third and fourth lines are shorter than the other three.
Example:
There was an Old Man with a Beard, by Edward Lear
There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, "It is just as I feared!--
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard!
Limerick (Irish)
Has five lines, with a syllable-count of 8/8/5/5/8, and a rhyme-scheme of a-a-b-b-a.

As to the example Limerick and its repeats, you'll have to complain to its author … LOL!
"EDWARD LEAR"
Edward Lear was an English poet, and is known now mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry and prose, and especially his limericks, a form he popularized.
Born: May 12, 1812, Holloway, United Kingdom
Died: January 29, 1888, Sanremo, Italy
I love this fun limerick! My 5 year old niece drew a picture of a princess with her arms raised up because her armpits are "stinky" and she needs to air them out. I think I shall try to write a limerick about this very strange princess.
There was a girl named Mayzie
maybe my memories are hazy
but trust me when i swear
bees and birds lived in her hair
that was quite crazy about Mayzie ...
But it looks like it would be a privilege to serve her. That's a fun read, Richard.
