Alas, sad 'tis not I (I must now face)
whose heart and soul for whom thine hopes await;
for, my deep love shall ne'er fulfill his place;
'tis true, the way life now has formed my fate.
...I felt the sadness of wanting to hold on yet to let go to
let the loved one find true happiness...

I think it's because your depths of feeling and sensitivity are so vividly and imaginatively real that some of my more emotionally impacting poems have such an effect on you.
I know some of your hit me in the same way, but it's all imagined before it can be felt, eh?

It is so very nice to find you here this early morn, to receive your deep, understanding words in reflection, and most certainly such inspiring praise to one of my humble little Sonnets of heartbroken, "noble chivalry" (as you've so adroitly expressed).
One could passionately hope that, when they release their lover and leave the door open, they might find their way back into waiting arms.
Your new Sonnet will be my greatest pleasure to enjoy, My Friend … if help is required, I am always available and willing.
Blessings upon you, Dear Gene, with a hundred grateful thanks for such an brightly inspiring review! ⁓ Richard

Your pleasure will (in time) be gleefully shared, My Friend! : )
As always, Richard, this is beautifully written and a delight to read. It is a loss in that the beloved will never be "his", but the way in which he obviously loves her dictates that her happiness will be enough. So lovely to read a piece that expresses true love, even though the heartache is true.

You really make writing and sharing such a joy; for, the way your mind works is so wonderfully appealing to my senses — you seems to grasp me … well, my poems, and this is a rarity from those whom review my ernest little efforts.
You are special, and I love that you enjoy my writing … hugs to You! ⁓ Richard
Somehow, though this is as you indicate a Shakespearean Sonnet, (in superb form) the content reminds me of Poe's "Annabel Lee" for the devotion and love is of a depth that pierces the soul; one now gone entwined down into one's core creates an image that is TOTAL, and the complete devotion expressed for the other by letting go of the hand of the other indicates a willingness to accept such angst as that which must be, forevermore as the love felt.
Your works are superb and reveal your great talent! I, a lowly poet, am indeed honored to read your poems!

To have my humble rendering so praised by comparing it to Poe's work is, indeed, gratification beyond any I could have hoped for.
Such accolades from a poetess of your level (never a "lowly poet) sends sensations thrilling all through a hopeful bard's senses — I thank you ever-so warmly for reading and gifting me the charming wonder of your inspiring words … just what I needed! ⁓ Richard
i am incapable of speaking to the structure of a poem...i am a content kind of guy...yet which of us is not indebted to the romantics who held our hand and taught us to give our hearts form in words...that is what i see reflected...thank you for reminding me of that, and sharing again the tenor and tenure of your heart

It is my discernment that one's innate nature dictates the genre of poetry that lures the senses to enjoy and compose that which pours froth from our beings upon the page.
Most are drawn to a certain form, style, or mode of poetic verse over another, or over others. To specialize, as you do, has often brought forth great skill and compositions within our art, developing many masters.
Unfortunately, for me, I've never been able to settle on any one style or form … fated to wander through the world of poetic vastness, from one genre, one form to another, as you will see, if you continue to browse through my library of offerings.
The one thing You and I can agree on is (as though there were nothing else), without proper and meaningful "content", excellent poetry is not possible, regardless whatever form it make take.
Yes, we are all indebted to the great classical writers, as I am to you for the words you've employed to convey such favor for this humble piece, and I am truly more than amply gratified by your praise and appreciation.
A bushel of many thanks to you, My Friend, for reading and reviewing one of my earnest efforts! ⁓ Richard
Popped along to have a look at your Sonnets and like I expected, they're great. I love sonnets and this is a perfect example why; your rhymes (and wording throughout) are so elegant and easy on the tongue but furthermore, your use of English is exquisite. The context is equal to your skill; you capture the heart saddening (and common place) situation effortlessly. A great read, like always.

How truly honored I am by your visits upon my pages, for such encouraging praise and appreciation of my humble efforts to share and please, but most of all for being the sort of reader and reviewer who knows how to reach into a poet and let them know.

PS … I look forward to sharing your poetry, in pleasurable times to come. : )
Hi, Richard, long time, no read. This poem is beautiful, especially the third quatrain.

I am so pleased you decided in drop-in for a read and review, and most certainly to leave your always appreciated praise and enjoyable words of encouragement to my humble little efforts.
In reading back through this piece, I must agree with you on your choice of verses, and the final Heroic Couplet ain't all that bad, either.
Many thanks and blessings to you and your brightest dreams! ⁓ Richard
An elegant revision of an old adage...
Truth has a beauty all its own; yet, you have found a way to embellish the flowering of love.
