The Emerald Princess

The Emerald Princess

A Poem by Richard Novak

The Emerald Princess

The Emerald Princess awoke one fine morn
To the smell of strawberries and cream.
"What a beautiful way of greeting the day,
With a fragrance sweet as a dream!"

Gathering up gown 'round ankles petite
She went out for to greet the new day.
'Twas a sky of light blue laced with clouds of pink hue,
And the freshness of gently-blown spray.

The Princess set out in a stout oaken ship
Name of Robin, her sails unfurled.
First a cry! Then a shout! Then she got on about
Saying hello to the world.

The ship sailed onward, and steady its course
As the Emerald Princess took in
Sight and sound, view and call. The girl wanted it all
And she scarcely knew where to begin.

Of a sudden a bolt of red flame lit the sky,
The little ship rocked and it swayed.
Rain ran quickly on down; midst deafening sound
Would the Princess become quite dismayed?

Continuing on (for she never would stop)
The Princess kept sailing the while.
There was too much to see, as much, too, yet to be!
How exciting! she thought with a smile.

Her smile soon brought out the sun once again
And its brilliance had increased by half
'Midst the warmth and the beauty, she soon saw her duty;
Princess Emerald let forth with a laugh.

Fantastic! I am very impressed. What an adventure. Such flow and imagery. Great poem and story both.

Woohoo for fantasy poetry! There's really nothing better. XD And this is lovely, you create such beautiful images with your words - especially the bit about the sky when the princess first wakes up. Very pretty, keep writing!
