1. The poem is based off of "Flowers in the Attic," by V.C. Andrews.
2. Don't watch the movie, watch the book!
3. The poem is also based on how I actually felt!

Here is some lovely comments to this picture from DA:
Perhaps locked away in an attic, trying to see through the exhaust vent, drinking in the thin beams of light and dreaming of what was...but the mind of the reader stands unlocked and open wide within the thoughts this wonderful piece of art has produced. Very nicely done my friend.
We used to have an attic in our backyard where I used think mysteries lived and may be some secrets of life, the wooden smell of it I always loved to smell... It destroyed with time a few years ago but it's wooden structure still left...
You write with creative power and stunning details even in your poems where we get less opportunity to many words... Always a pleasure to read your words frnd... I liked the picture as always which brings the lines, "I sat behind the transparent film"...
Sincerely
Dhiman

A masterful piece! Some super lines Ria that capture the supreme storytelling within the book but your feelings about it. Do you know as I read I could hear Chris speaking the words 'she never meant for us to leave that attic' there are many quotes I could throw from the book but that day front and centre and crystal clear. The image is perfectly suited. The music deliciously chilling. A richly crafted piece. I'm diggin on it...so dope! R xo

There are so many good lines. I did read the rest of the series, but the first is the best. Personally, I really liked "Petals on the Wind." However, Cathy's character sometimes annoyed the s**t out of me. She started turning into her mother when it came to toying with men's emotions. Chris was honestly a favorite. His love for her was pure despite the incest.

This is really good. You invoke such good imagery. Really a quick, great read with a strong poetic voice. Attics are so creepy and perfect, I especially love the last line.
I like this, Ria - before I read your note, I was thinking of Romeo and Juliet:
I felt the adrenaline of exile;
a deserter of the two families...
After reading your note, I read the poem again - and yes, I see the Flowers in the Attic influence. I read that whole series many years ago (saw the movie, too - very disappointing...)
I like the inspiration used, and what you did with it. :)

Romeo and Juliet were stupid! Frankly, I f*****g hated it! I say this with love.
"Flowers in the Attic" is more beautiful. I highly recommend the entire "Flowers in the Attic" series:
1. Flowers in the Attic
2. Petals on the Wind
3. Seeds of Yesterday
There are more, but I cannot remember.
Thanks again! Have a wonderful day!

Shakespeare is not something I enjoy because he is basically the Mark Twain of that time period. I like a writer that can say what they have written no matter how hostile it is.
Attics have always reminded me of a place where secrets are kept, history is buried but can also unlock the future by revisiting old relics/videos/pictures. Attics remind me of the movie 'The Goonies' the finding of a treasure may by a bunch of kids who inturn went on an adventure together.
Sorry for rambling.

However, the poem is based of personal experience. In addition, it is based on "Flowers in the Attic." It is about four children locked away in the attic by their mother for many years. During that time, they are abused by their religious fanatic grandmother. I would highly suggest giving it a Google :)
Thanks again, Troy!
