Zion

Zion

A Poem by L. C. Rhodes
"

A rather intense piece inspired by slam poetry, or more specifically the slam poetry of Jackie Hill . Meant to be spoken with great bitterness and sarcasm.

"
O Zion!
I lament thy passing,
I who arose perfect and clean,
amide your shadowed pines and your vaults of gold,
And on Zion I knew an unending naive peace.
Torn Asunder! By the heavy hands of Fate!
O Zion!
Where is your summit now?
Your corrupted sagging walls polluted by blood,
screaming outrage against a cold and loveless world,
destroying that pale sickly illusion of 'normal'.
O Zion!
What crumpled bodies toss mangled and,
broken onto the stained shores of Death,
While your advisers drink tea in gold-gilt chambers,
While my flesh was ripped and my innocence torn,
While I breathed in fire, and danced with the demons of Hell.
Where were you?
WHERE WERE YOU?!
O Zion!
How far have I fallen?

Author's Note

L. C. Rhodes
These are not so much a reflection of my thoughts as they are the experiences of people that I have met. While I am a fairly devote follower of Christ, many of my close friends and peers are atheist or agnostic. This is my attempt to identify with their feelings. It is not my intention to offend anyone.
