James Negus and Christian Dejesus (4)

"... and may the Grace of God keep you and hold you in His Heart. Amen."
"Amen." Christian agreed. He brought up his head and watched as Pastor James Negus walk down the pew aisle from the altar. He followed the aging man down the alley and to the coat rack by the vestibule doors.
"How was that?" James asked, pulling a light jacket over his green WWJD? t-shirt.
"Sound's good, man." Christian said, pulling his glasses off to blow on their green-tinted lenses. He put them back on and jokingly added, "I think even the heathens'll be praising Jesus after that doozy."
The two men, the Pastor and Assistant Pastor of The First Church of 100 Oak Valley in Christ's Name, laughed as they stepped through the vestibule and out the doors into the sweet September afternoon.
"You wanna grab a bite to eat over at the Finest?" Christian asked, thumbing towards the diner two doors down. "My treat."
"Unfortunately I can't," James sighed. As he always did when he was bored or nervous, he rifled the corner of the pages of his bible, making a light fluttering sound. "I have to lay a man to rest in about ten minutes."
"Damn," Christian shook his head in sympathy. "Who was it?" Ed and that wife of his over in the Woods were about due, he thought.
"Dunno," Pastor Negus shrugged. "A John Doe a couple boys found down in the Crick a while back. Poor boys."
"Wasn't Willy and Billy was it?" Christian asked.
    "The dynamic duo," James smiled.
"Good kids. How they holding up over it?"
"Oh you know boys, they were freaked out for a couple days and then they were back to their old games again."
Christian nodded. "Have you spoken to them since?"
"No," Pastor Negus admitted. "But I've seen them in church twice and they seem alright. In Sunday School they're just the same as before, seeing who can burp the loudest on Junior Communion."
The two men laughed and Christian said, "I might go over to their houses and have a talk with 'em, if you don't mind."
"Not at all," James replied. "You might as well just wait for Sunday. You can give the Junior Sermon if you want and then speak to them after."
"I suppose I can do that," Christian nodded. "I'll only have two days to come up with a good speech, but I think I can manage."
"And it better be a good one," the Pastor warned. "Or you'll have the junior Apocalypse on your hands."
Again, the men laughed and Christian put a hand on James' shoulder.
"Well, friend," he said. "I'm gonna go grab a bite to eat and try to come up with something to wow those little kids."
    "Have fun," Pastor Negus smiled.
"You too," Christian laughed and the two men went opposite ways.

This segment is short, but again your names are quite entertaining. I'm just curious if this is going to be a zombie novel or something different. I suppose I shall find out later eh? The dialogue seems pretty solid and I think you do a good job on creating relationships between your characters. That makes for a believable story and it's always good when an author can effectively do that.
