Along With the World

Along With the World

A Poem by Joe
"

A Post-Apocalyptic Poem

"

What is this awful stench, my brothers?
Dearest sisters and mothers,
Where have the children gone?
They stood there where the school once stood.
They brought laughter and innocence to the neighborhood.
Now it is gone, my friends,
Along with the world.

Where have the green lawns gone?
Those yards so kept and clean
Are now abandoned,
Rotten with weed.
The houses that stand
Are now shattered and damned.
There lived, once, happy families.
Now they are gone, my friends,
Along with the world.

Now there only remains
The echo of life and lives past.
They are gone now, of course,
Replaced by the demons that stalk the night.
The creatures that lure the babes into their dens,
And swallow their hearts, souls, and heads.
There once were protectors against these cruel beings.
Now they are gone, my friends,
Along with the world.

Why can't we wake from this nightmare?
Why can't we open our eyes?
It's obvious, dear brothers and sisters,
We live in this oblivion
This cruel endless waste.
There once was a world here, where this damnation stands.
Now it's gone, my friends,
The world is gone.
