Fire Trance

Fire Trance

A Poem by Rhiannon Dragonraine

Fire,

Paradox that you are

I watch you from afar

Admiring your blaze

Your flames banking and rising under my gaze

Bright orange,red and yellow

tint and colorthe glow

even as you create heat

for the wood you consume you spell demise and defeat

warmth you bring to me

but what did you bring to the branches of that tree?

Fiery and passionate

energies dynamic outlet

lusty and warm

everything you touch you transform

from tree branches the sun's heat  you release

consuming everything; until for want of more you must cease

Fire

you entrance

as over dried logs you dance

leaving me dazed

you create and devour at once as if crazed

greedily gobbling it all; leaving only ashes.

I love the color font here - it truly brings the blaze to life in this work. Fire is perhaps an anomoly - it can sustain life, allow us to nourish ourselves and yet destroy in the blink of an eye. you've captured the essence of fire perfectly in this piece.
