Susan B. AnthonyA Poem by Rhiannon Dragonrainewritten for the "Without them" contestSusan B. Anthony I thank you for standing up for me At six you stood up for women's education insulted when they refused to teach you long division At twenty-nine you fought for equal pay for female teachers and you joined with other women's rights fighters Speaking out against slavery you bravely fought for all encompassing equality Though you didn't live to see women gain the vote you were strong enough and to this cause you were devote The Nineteenth amendment, on August 18, 1920 saw your dream realized And in 1979 you became immortalized as your face was the first real-life American female emblazoned upon a coin as I sing your praises; I hope that my sister women will join If you had not fought so hard future generation would not reap the reward I live my life as a woman free all because you stood up for me "Equality and votes for women!" was your battle cry and now women and men alike can aim for the sky So powerful and policy changing was your campaign And now I thank you for fighting for the rights of the average jane Truly note worthy are you; Susan B.
