Darkness

Darkness

A Poem by Rhia Barton
"

All would fall. All but one...

"

And that sweeping gesture

Like a farmer sowing his seeds

Like a rich man throwing his pennies

Like a lonely man sifting the sand through his fingers

Was one that brought the darkness down upon them

It rained and lashed and drowned all beneath it

It smothered and covered and suffocated until

They perished and writhed and scattered

All but one

One delighted in the darkness and

Danced and spun in the night

They grinned and laughed as they

Walked among the bodies

The faces went unnoticed and

The legs didn’t trip them and the

Blood scuttled away from their feet

The flies parted as they passed

The dirt beneath their feet scuffed with

Every step they took and stones were

Scattered and the gravel crunched as

They surveyed the destruction

It was all-encompassing it

Was all-devouring it was

Everywhere it was Every

Thing it was their dream it

Was their nightmare it was their

Reality

I know it doesn't have a rhyming scheme or a solid rhythmic structure but this was essentially me letting my pencil do whatever the hell it wanted.

Horrific - once I really let it flow over me. Very good imagery Rhia. The 'One' being referred to as they surprised me - was it a mistake I asked myself but then it dawned on me that you were lumping (poor choice of words on my part there) the darkness tribe/mob/group as one body. Then it all made perfect sense to me.
I liked the theme too.

Jesus Rhia,
You're going to end up giving me nightmares.
But then again, I'm a terrible Horror-holic filled with self hate about being a horror-holic.

I've read in your Profile that you like writing fantasy,
And while I absolutly freaking -adore- your horror bits,
I'd love to read some of your fantasy as well.

By the way,
If you ever feel like collaborating on something, hit me up.
Read the ''The Taste', that's the closest I've dabbled in macbere here.

Great imagery! It flows well together and I don't think it has any rhyming.

Thank you for the review :)
Nice imagery! It is very dark (no pun intended). The rhythm of the poem was somewhat lost to me. I've read it twice now but still never got the rhythm.

Awesome imagery, reads like a short story no need to rhyme. Well done.
