Reminder

Reminder

A Poem by RhenH
"

This is a song I wrote about my relationship with my mother and her faith.

"
You've crashed against me like wave after wave
On a rock
Since the day I could stand
You picked me up and showed me how
To hate
All the parts of me you made
I don't think I understand
Why you made me in your image
When you can't even look at your own face

Do I remind you
Of the cost
The lost
The pain and the loss
Do I remind you
Of him
Of sin
Of the times they refused to let you in

You advocate for all the monsters that chase me
My demons find refuge in your hands
It's funny how you turn my bruised cheek towards them
And whisper, remember not to cry
You shower everyone in mercy and grace
Then thank me for helping with panic attacks

Do I remind you
Of the cost
The lost
The pain and the loss
Do I remind you
Of him
Of sin
Of the times they refused to let you in
Do I remind you
That you failed
Again
And again
And again
And again
