Melodies

Melodies

A Poem by Mariah Jane

Melodies....

More than just notes on a page, or lyrics spoken in beautiful ways... Melodies are the songs that are sung in the deepest part of our minds and hearts. Even the creation sings melodies that you can only know if your heart sings with them.

Deep are the thoughts of my mind and the melodies of my heart. Sadly, though, these melodies are dying...Disappearing into murky depths that even I cannot see into. I lie listening, waiting, yearning to hear them, find them, so I might sing them once more. But, Alas, I cannot even catch a glimpse of them.

How then shall I sing and be joyful amongst such turmoil and sadness? How then shall I be free to enjoy the things that my heart longs to sing of? Can one truly see joy amidst sadness when there is naught the sound of a melody hidden and treasured somewhere deep within them?

Do not melodies and soft lyrics paint pictures into your minds? Do they not lull you into a deep rest, or cause you to dance? What, then, is a world without music? What, then, shall we do if it ever fades?

Melodies...

More then notes written or lyrics spoken...

...It is the song our lives sing.

I like that while it doesn't seem to follow any kind of poetic structure, there is a lot of musical structure to it. It has a sense of rhythm. There are places where the sound crescendos and decrescendos. The tempo seems to change in different places. I think there might actually be a key change in there.

Also, I agree with your thoughts here.

I can definitely see how this could be a poem about the loss of innocents and the yearning to return to it, but I really enjoy that last segment best.

This is a very powerful poem. I wish that I could write as beautiful as this, just as I'm sure many others do as well. 100 from me.
