An Understanding of Self

An Understanding of Self

A Poem by Mariah Jane

Facing a sadness that reaches deeper than before,
a crying heart that bursts deep within my chest...
A torn and bleeding soul, not able to find a healer,
a mask worn by a deformed face, matching the creature within.

This is me.

Feeling a darkness washing over the vastness of my mind,
a cold shiver that reaches the depths of my body...
A writhing, anguished pain that has no cure to find,
a wolf in sheep’s clothing, waiting to devour the next to come.

This is me.

Know it well, for then it cannot hurt.

This surfaces some memories of my own. I like that the emotions expressed are both obvious and subtle. The pain and emptiness is clear, but there is also anger at everything and a longing for someone to help, but that someone better be prepared for a world of hurt.
