Red Lipstick

Red Lipstick

A Poem by Rhonda

She looks at herself in the mirror

She's covered with bruises

Every bruise represents a time where she's gotten abused

Her mom beats her on a daily basis

A 9 year old girl should live a good life

She touches her long, straight blonde hair

"Why am I living?" she asks herself

She gets her mom's lipstick from her room

It is safe because her mom or dad isn't home

She comes back to the mirror

She writes with the lipstick

Please God, Help Me

All over the mirror

She quickly starts to pack food and her clothes

She runs away from her house

Her parents came home and found the mirror

"That little b***h." her mom says loudly

2 days later, the girl is found dead

She hung herself that day

She thought that she had no point of living

This is an intense poem, with a great message behind it. I like the incorporation of the lipstick and its symbolism in the story. I enjoyed the mother's bit of dialogue in the story, it fit nicely. Once again, you have a great way of telling stories in poetry. Keep it up :) I'm glad I read this, even though it was quite sad.

Oh my a deep emotional poem i just read. A girl of that age shoudn't think the world is some type of hell. The writting made me feel her pain just sitting and watching it happen. This is a Great poem.

A very sad poem. It does happen often in this world. I lost two brothers to suicide. Made me expect less and become a friend to my family. We all need someone to be kind and a safe place to rest. A powerful poem.
