Chapter 2- Nikki

   "Will this club actually work?" asked Nessa at our lunch table.

   "Yes, it will." I said.

   "When will there be a club meeting?" Jess asked.

   "What about Monday after school?" Trudy asked us.

   "Sure." I said. "Is it good for you guys?"

   "Yes." Jess and Nessa said.

   "Where though?" Trudy asked.

   "What about we switch houses? On this coming Momday, we could have it at Nikki's house. Then Trudy's house. Then so on." Jess said happily.

   "I could be after Trudy." Nessa said.

   "Sure." Trudy said.

   "Now we should make a list of who brings what. I'll bring food." I said.

   "I'll be drinks and cups." Trudy said.

   "I'll make poems. We could say one each week. Right after we start a meeting." said Nessa. We all knew Nessa was a good writer. Especially Trudy who was in her english class.

   "I'll make decorations." Jess said. Jess was the best artist in our whole school. She was so neat and always got A's in art class.

   "We should get four pieces of paper and write down our phone numbers on each." I quickly got out four pieces of paper from my binder. I wrote down my cell number. Nessa was next and so on.

   After school, I decided to look online for more info about Afghan and Pakistani women, but first I always went on my Facebook. "That's it." I thought. "The charity organizations." There was a big application of charities. I clicked on search after I typed "Afghan Womens' Rights". It came up with a charity with a picture of a women holding a flag. It said "Madre" in bold. I decided to join the cause. Once I went to the cause, I saw a link to their website. I found ways to host an event.

  

   "Let's take rool." I said the afternoon of the meeting. "Jessica Anderson?"

   "Here!"

   "Janessa Smith?"

   "Here!"

   "Trudy Thompson?"

   "Here!"

   "And me, Nikki Byper is here. Now, today I'll discuss our roles in he club. Who do you think should be President? Vice President? Seceratary? Tresurer?"

   "I think you should be president Nikki." Trudy said.

   "Why? You were the one who came up with the club idea."

   "Well, I wouldn't have come up with the idea without you telling me that you wanted to do something about it."

   "I agree with Trudy. She wouldn't have come up with the idea without you Nikki." Nessa said.

   "I agree with Trudy too. Nikki should be President and Trudy should be Vice President." Jess said.

   "Jessica's right." Trudy said.

   "I guess so." I said. "Who would like to be seceratary?"

   "I will." Nessa said. "Is it okay with you Jess?"

   "Yeah."

   "Now, I'd like to go over something that I found. I've found a site called Madre.org. It's a website to donate money to Afghan women. I'll show you the slideshow after Nessa reads her poem.

   "Thank you Nikki. My poem is called Blue Burka. A burka is a cloth that covers all of a women's body. There is a small screen to see through. Here it is." She started to read her poem and after it was finished, it touched my heart.

   "Ok. I asked Ms. Adamson is I could borrow her overhead and she said yes. I'll show you a slideshow about the women in Afghanistan." I announced. I put the overhead on a table and aimed it at my wall. The slideshow told about women in Afghanistan who fought for womens' rights, but have gotten killed by the Taliban.

   " I have an idea." Jess said after. "We should take a booth at the school fair and have people play a game for charity."

   "Yes. They'll ship us some materials. Who would like to reserve the table?" I asked.

   "I will" Trudy said.

   "Good. I'll email them tonight. Now, my parents and I would like to invite you all to have dinner with us." We all ate a nice dinner with Afghan food and dessert from Madre.org. I was glad we started this club.
