piss all over
every decision that's shaped
your lives, every
thing that you've built
with your hands and your
brains and all that time
you won't get back. If I
could explain, it
wouldn't help.
Understanding my reasons
won't save you.
So let's just say that, since
you saw me last, I
read a lot
of Bukowski right before I
had a general anaesthetic,
and when most of me passed out,
something stayed awake
and hasn't slept since.
And I
don't want it
to go
to sleep
again.
There's my answer. I
hope you find
your own.
By not explaining, you show that you are serious, giving notice. You are not resigning...to your fate ? Something stayed awake and hasn't slept since. You want to keep that inner fire burning and therefore you have to give notice. Very strong work, well done.
This is a really strong poem.
It's really wise to see that we can't convince others of our decisions or our beliefs, and its so awesome that you added
every decision that's shaped
your lives, every
thing that you've built
with your hands and your
brains and all that time
you won't get back.
That is really insightful..it's really a part of humans that is stuck in the mud..people who live for ideals or beliefs that keep them from being open minded and they are ignorant that they are close minded. People are so afraid to let go of their beliefs because they make them into their own identities. I see this is a lot of people's lives that I am around. I definitely see this in religious people..not all, but some that I know.
Then you use the idea of something coming awake in you when the rest of you has lost consciousness..this is really intelligently written. And I think you are getting at that theme of breaking out of close mindedness that I was speaking of earlier (in a really muddled way) and being awakened to some higher understanding of self/life.
This is incredibly written. Also the line breaks make it feel really chaotic which adds to the poem.
Did you go to school for creative writing?
You are awesome!
Oh my God! How do you do it? The first brilliance is the communication of an idea that few people grasp, let alone convey -- that we can never convince others of what we feel, and it's futile to try. The second is, the way the poem is set out. The broken lines help to put across a malaise, a sense of ill-fitting, a hesitance in even attempting to explain or justify. And the crowning glory is that ghost in the machine, the Bukowski-provoked "thing" that survived the anaesthetic. We have to follow our personal inner light (but how many of us realise that?)
Awesome.

I will take the time to respond individually tomorrow when I'm less knackered, but I just wanted to let you all know, I did in fact hand in my notice today. I'm done with the meaninglessness.
