Strays at the Chasm's Precipice

Strays at the Chasm's Precipice

A Poem by Nico Reznick

This is what we do with our obsession:
fixate on these vain trivialities,
like trying to find the perfect sequence of words,
the most fit synonym,
the correct cadence,
as we try to say something new and meaningful about
love or pain or principle.

We like to pretend we're
civilised.

We're all of us just hungry strays
yowling at the chasm's precipice,
desperately hoping some stranger
catches our echo.

It's all so true ... "vain trivialities" ..."hungry strays"

There's nothing new under the sun, yet we "creators" keep coming back to it, trying to say something fresh and arresting. Are we wasting our time? Probably. Still, as you pointed out elsewhere, there's always alcoholism to fall back on.

Excellent work, young woman.

It is an obsession and sometimes an unhealthy one. We may sit (some of us) for hours writing, trying to apply what we think we've learned knowing all along the outcome is a crap shoot with no real substantial gains. But whatever...we like it. :)
