Waiting at home

Waiting at home

A Poem by Pale Moon
"

When a father leaves for a land called No Man's Land

"

A small wooden house stood by the river,

A small boy and a woman in teens,

Lifting their arms and wave,

For they say their farewell,

Farewell for a man they hold consider a parent and a lover,

Farewell for a man who just left,

Whom they doubt and weep for his return, For a place he goes is No man's land,

A place where fire and smoke resides,

A place where a man be torn to shreds.

Three years passed by,

And the small boy still awaits outside of the house with his mother,

For they plead to God for his return,

Yet...

No news,

No messages,

Only silence.

A story that has unfolded many, many times throughout history. And all they can do is hope for his safe return. Many of course in history did not return. I guess they worked on the premise of no news is good news and it was only when they received a telegram or a knock on the door that their hope would also have died.

I guess this poem depicts the social obligation and material needs, for survival's sake, that can propel a woman or a man away from loved ones in order to find better work opportunities and greener pastures.

Well done

Very nice. Reminds me of waiting for my deceased sister and wanting to know if she's alive or dead.

So sad, but honestly, this is a reality for some families in the military. It’s heartbreaking, the burdens and weights even the wife/kids have to carry as their husband and father go out to war...

Great write!
I have one similar called, “My Hero”, feel free to give it a read too sometime

Thanks! I will! hehe :)
Ugghhh….so sad. And so true. It wasn't war but I had waited on my father to come back and visit and so many times he didn't show. I think that has such an impact on a child's sense of self worth. Great piece, really hits home!

To find the promise land, that is far better. Than the one, they have already. Some never to even make it to the promised land or even to return back home again. Maybe it was all a dream made up to try out . To see if it may be true or false!

Even after 3 years they still wait! You can't ever give up hope, that's all you have! Nice poem!

This is an amazing message. On the surface, I’m reminded of families of olden times, where they lived far from people, far from towns, & the men had to go on hunting trips or the occasional journey to far-off towns, etc. But then I started to see this in modern-day terms, like when a father becomes addicted to opioids & it’s like he’s gone to a different land for a few years. So many different ways this can happen, which is why your message is so clever, becuz it’s so multi-layered (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
