Prologue

Mina Collins is a seventeen year old runaway with a dark past. Landing in the small town of Del Mar, she has finally found the light... The question is, will it last? What does destiny have in store?

 

ICU Room 108:

 

Beep. Beep. Beep

 

The steady rhythm of the EKG machine echoes throughout the room. On its screen small spikes and dips flash in contrast to the black background. The room is dark and scarcely furnished, basic yet functional. Sterile. A small stream of light peeks through the curtains and softly kisses her resting cheek, its warmth spreading through her.

 

There, on a small bed in the center of the room, she lays silently - motionless. Every few hours someone will stop in making their rounds and make sure she has enough fluids and emptying others. Still no progress.

 

Outside, the ICU houses only a dozen rooms, each one occupied by bodies fighting hard for their lives. Doctors and nurses are working tirelessly to heal the sick and save the dying, but inside room 108, her life is out of even the best doctor’s hands.

 

Struggling with every breath, the rasping of the ventilator cuts through the silence, filling her lungs with air, and maybe even hope. Whether or not she comes back to us is up to her, that is, if she wants to. For now, we play the waiting game. What does destiny have in store for our resting princess?
