Done Wrong

Done Wrong

A Poem by BruceJackson
"

Justice is only part of the missing pieces of the puzzle for our children. Let us pray that we make our children a priority as Jawanzaa Kunjufu has urged us as parents.

"

They didn't do right by me.

Someone left me on a doorstep.

They abandoned their baby.

They left him in the hands of strangers.

They didn't do right by me.

They didn't do right by me.

They always went off dancing and drinking,

Leaving me with strangers

And never once seeing how I turned out,

Especially after that man turned me out.

I was damaged at such a young age.

They didn't do right by me.

They never did right by me.

They saw where I was headed,

But no one spoke up.

No one stopped me in my path.

The preacher was hushed.

The Teacher was silent.

Not a soul spoke out for me,

Not even when the judge slammed the gavel.

All I heard was my mother shriek in terror.

I bet she realized then

The truth of how they never did right by me.
