ExportedA Poem by BruceJacksonThis piece was written in response to an in-depth conversation on abolition and the toll of enslavement on people of color, African Americans in particular. In the days of old, There were pirates who plundered. They came in and stole goods. They traded for guns. They took our sons and daughters, And then they stole our women and brothers.
They said we were theirs. No longer did we belong to God. They chained us together as one. They tossed the sick overboard. They said we were their property. How does a man belong to another man? Who is one who can own another? I marvel at their ways. They told us that we no longer belonged to God. They said we were theirs. © 2011 BruceJackson |
