No World for Blind Mice

No World for Blind Mice

A Poem by Kenny Bellamy

Have you ever heard a mouse scream?

Who cut off his tail with a carving knife and left it

like a root on the cutting board,

sliced neat

as a carrot’s top?

The mouse, nose to the ground, left

his track of blood

for the farmer’s wife to follow.

Little blind mouse, how he tried to run.

She found him, small as a cotton ball

staunching a wound, and tucked him

into the garbage disposal.

Found this poem through a contest, and I like it! It's dark but yet somehow very affectionate and emotional. I love the last part : "She found him, small as a cotton ball, staunching a woun, and tucked him into the garbage disposal". Just brings a little light to the poem.
Great job!
