Brain Zaps

Brain Zaps

A Poem by Kenny Bellamy

Boom, boom went the eyes in the sleepless night,

poof, went the dream clouds like hourglass sand.

fading gently in and out of my sight

I was bought from one mandatory fight

to another, against my pillow and

boom, boom went the eyes in the sleepless night.

Ephemeral foes on subways packed tight.

Knocked down in the first round, prompting the stands.

fading gently in and out of my sight

Hot sweat on red gloves rubbed eyelids pulled tight,

And fell like tiny bells silenced in sand.

Boom, boom went the eyes in the sleepless night.

Throw the towel, thought I in the ringside light

while the bones creaked like hard insects in hand,

fading gently in and out of my sight

Was it something I ate? Thought I with fright.

My hands shake, answering not my command.

Boom, boom went the eyes in the sleepless night.

Fading gently in and out of my sight
