One More Round

One More Round

A Poem by Timothy Ryan

I wasn’t ready yet to give my soul in and die to the forty-hour weeks of working-class blues for my still-poor paycheck. I wasn’t lonely enough to stumble into love and give my best years away to someone I’d grow bored with a few months after the afterglow. And I wasn’t jaded to the point of trying to get my life together in a predictable order that never strayed too far from safety. My bills would have to wait another excusing week. The fresh-cooked dinners wouldn’t be served until my microwave-meals saw the end of expiration dates. And all the reasons people sighed their happiness away didn’t seem to understand that I wasn’t done dreaming yet.

Waking up not knowing if this is for you. Battling through the constant uncertainty. Everything is possible. I like it.
