Sweet, Sweet Sweeney Todd

Sweet, Sweet Sweeney Todd

A Poem by Joseph - Michael
"

This is what I'd say (probably would sing) to him if we ever face to face.

"

Dear, Sweet, Sweet Mr. Sweeney Todd

Please, Kind Sir, Do Tell Me All Of The Times

The Unspeakable Crimes Which You've Created

In My Mind, I Must Say That I Truly Can Relate

Basically

Allow Me, Good Sir, To Speak, If You'd Permit Me

Allow Me To Speak Out On How I've Admired Thee

Permit Me To Tell How You've Made Any Hearts Bleed

Literality

Please, Do Tell Me The Whole Sweet Tales O' Your

Forget Bout The Times With That Lady, Mrs. Lovett

She Was Nowhere Near To Be That Lovely

As For The Boy, What's His Name? Oh, Yeah, Toby

Forget Bout Them For That They Are Nobody

To My Eyes, They're Just Another Bad Pies

O' Sweet, Sweet Mr. Sweeney Todd

I'm Not Here For One Of Your Infamous Silver Shavers

By The Look Of Them, They Gave Everybody The Shivers

But, I'm Still Here, You See, I'm At My Best Behavior

In Order For You To Be My Personal Favorite Tales Giver

You Are One An Odd Man, Mr. Todd

No Matter, Dear Sir, No Matter

Just Permit Me To Speak Out Of The Draft

Allow Me To Speak Out On Your Behalf

So, Please, Do Tell Me Bout The Shavers Of Your

Are They Still Worth Everything To Die For?

I Know That It Was At Your Most Desperate Time

And You Were Under The Most Desperate Measure

But, Goin' Over The Limits, Are They Treasure Enough?

O' Sweet, Sweet Mr. Sweeney Todd

You're Probably Wonderin' Why I'm Calling You Sweet

It's Because, You See, You Remind Me So Much Of The Blood

As Sweet As The Blood Would Always Taste As It Should Be

Still Not As That Sweet As Mrs. Lovett Would Be

Otherwise, Our Hearts Would Be Torn Apart To Bleed

Again, Forget Bout Toby, He's Still Nobody

Out Of The Victims, You've Taken The Best

But, You Surely Have Forgotten The Rest

Fret Not, Good Sir, Fret Not

For That There's A New Demon On The Fleet Street

And It's Not The Barber That's Fleeing Around

It's The New Hair Stylist That's Sleeking Around

Here I Am, Sweet, Sweet Mr. Sweeney Todd, Here I Am

And I Want The Rest Of Them Bleeders Now

This thing is freaking awesome! I absolutely love Sweeney Todd to death (which is why your title caught my attention), and I enjoyed every single word and letter of this poem! You did a really great job with introducing a new killer; definitely something that I have fantisized about. ;)

The style of it was just perfect. It matched the setting of Sweeney's time excellently! The content was just as good because it added a sinister tone to it right after the admiration of the character when speaking Sweeney Todd. Thanks for posting this! I absolutely loved it!

It's like how you illustrated the blindness of a mad man, speaking about Mrs. Lovett and Toby.

The fact that you wrote so many words in capital letters is also very effective.

Nice job.

A.M.

P.S.: If you haven't seen the first Sweeney Todd, I suggest you try it because it shows some kind of ,,lucid-madness,, .

I did not care to much for the movie, not a musical person to be honest. But this was pretty good, and wow. Id of rather herd this in the movie then half the songs they sang.

Hahaha....

(Do you know how Jonny Depp wound up being more creepy than Ben Kingsley? I have no idea. (Kingsley's a f*****g creeper, he is.))

Like "Westside Story" it seems likely that "Sweeny Todd" won't be just a flash in the pan, but will live on. The music meant more to me than the nonchalant slicing of throats, the excess itself being the point, I suppose. Your poem twists around from being a tribute to Todd to the obsessed fan's promise to follow in his footsteps. Really great stuff. I'm sure Sondheim would like it.

Oh I absolutly love Sweeny Todd! And the way you use the lanugage they did, with all the "frets" and "dear sirs" and whatnot. So perfect, the way you morphed then new hair stylist as the new demon barber. Like your the modern day Sweeny Todd youself! Great write

Your in-depth poem (or should I say in-Depp lol) really outlines things for the reader and makes me want to go out and watch the movie. Wonderful writing here on imagery and consistant rhyming and carrying on the brilliant message. Excellent poetry!
