SLUDGE AND SUNLIGHT

SLUDGE AND SUNLIGHT

A Poem by Rene Velez

the consistent knocking
cold damp rainy air
entering the fly screen window
morning mocking
with unknown bird calls
eyes opening
leaving desired realms
scratching the door
dogs want out
returning, yearning
for chicken treats
a one mile walk
coffee on the horizon
sludge and sunlight
for the remainder of the day
then back to my desired death.
