FAMILY TREE

FAMILY TREE

A Poem by Rene Velez

We are rich in blood
winds tug on a  family tree
life embraces undeniably
water and soil abundant with love

sun shines yet the
Leaves still fall...

absently you shrug
and lose kindly
love walks you blindly
in a death of brotherly love

longhorns buried deep
Sun gives branches no warmth...

I am branded by tongue lashes
from speak evils you invoke,
fire in breath, dragon in smoke

Bark has been singed...

your future will beckon my return
when the blood is dry
And the heart has burned

Winter has hands like death...

Somehow this reminds me of our infamous family reunions. I still remember my late grandfather; he was the patriarch . . . I can still remember his very words to me as a boy: "We're going to the family reunion to see our relatives; get your rifle." He was only half-joking, too :)

This is definitely one of your more darker pieces. Vivid and inspiring in an odd sort of way.

Such a deep piece. Yngdrasil and the burning bush come to mind here.

The branches on this entwine and snare the reader drawing them deep below the bark... Love the concept

Deep. Very nice... enjoyed this, how you thought of the family tree and love this way, unique.

'when the blood is dry
And the heart has burned'

a very compelling flow of images. i particularly liked the 'fire in breath, dragon in smoke Bark has been singed...' lines as well. when love dies we are as nothing.

Powerful words. Blood does ties us but does not cement us together with bonds that do not break. Only those who nourish the love they are given can keep hold of family ties. A well written piece. Thank you for sharing this heartfelt piece. it does tug at the reader's heart wishing those bonds could be stronger and filled with love rather than absence.
