RESCUING THE SAINTS

RESCUING THE SAINTS

A Poem by Rene Velez
"

Spiritual

"
I've seen the twilight of the water sun
a civilization with its socialism undone,
a vision of the ravenous tree,
false love for humanity,
embracing genocide,
passionately,

I dreamt on a cloud,
from the one that spoke loud,
each day, paying the toll
imprinted on a shroud,

with hands held high,
fortified in one common cry,
chains remember change,
insignificant names,
freedom trapped in
diamond and ruby flames,

the picture paints, taints,
is it me rescuing the saints?
blinded and alone,
like a medicine man lost
in a blizzard of white snow.

I like the way you start this piece with references to the unrest or unsettling feeling saints or religion as a whole can cause. The need to defend our beliefs has been the cause of many horrible acts...and how we sometimes call upon those we are defending, to save or empower us. (Hopefully I did not misread this, or read too much into it) you do a great job showing the symbiotic relationship between us and our Saints. Do they save us, or do we save and empower them by believing...

"fortified in one common cry
chains remember change
insignificant names"

Those words packed a punch Rene... the multi-meaning, the strength in each word really resonated with me. It's as if you paralleled religions to slavery, and even if that's not the intention, I still love the way that it can be found deep in there.

All together, reading this made me see that religion feels like politics... they are one in the same... I very much like this, good write.

once again your words paint a compelling picture and this one certainly has that something to say on society

Strong words and story brought me into this amazing poem.
"Dreamt in a cloud
from the one that spoke loud
as we pay a toll
imprinted on a shroud"
I have said for many years. The Angels must be crying for the deeds of men.
Your last lines made the poem complete.
"blinded and alone, like a medicine man lost
in a blizzard of white snow"
Thank you for a outstanding poem.
