BREAKFAST

BREAKFAST

A Poem by Rene Velez

There's a cool breeze,
coming in through the
open patio door. Nice,
considering it's summer,

could it be climate change?
that environmental thing we ignore,
still, hot coffee in hand,
is a good counter
to the morning chill,

toast, already cold,
accompanied by cold butter,
just taken out the fridge,
skipping a breakfast less
than average,

not a big deal, coffee
and the chill will fill
a need to survive,
a morning chill that tells me
I am still alive.

i like how this poem shows appreciation for life...even with the little dramas, and annoyances...the cold breeze...we are happy to be alive.
better to be cold in a morning chill...then to be cold in a grave, decomposing.
