RED FLAGS

RED FLAGS

A Poem by Rene Velez

You may find me
around the corner
or on the other side
of the fence,

a silent spectator,
my words in increments,
to random events
I may cater to,

I walk in old shoes
in a world, eschewed,
I am a foreigner,
from the deeds
I have drawn cues,

and danced to the obscure,
few visitors, still,
my thoughts endure,

if I smile or take offense,
I will wave the red flags
in my defense.
