UNBROKEN CYCLES

UNBROKEN CYCLES

A Poem by Rene Velez

It could have been the use of drugs
or a lack of love, a father who didn't bother
by an unbroken cycle, trying to find faith
in himself inside a bible, praying God
can make him better,

Or it could have been drugs
and not giving a f**k, but for him
I chose the latter and blame him
for not seeing things for what they were
and what truly mattered when they did,
like kids,

a father should never hate a son,
through a child's eyes, so innocent
and so young, no matter what he's done,
and certain things shouldn't be said,

lest you risk irreparable damage,
sons will starve without a father's bread
should have been an old adage,

a father's struggle within himself,
will suck the strength from his wealth,
he should be the quintessential image
of an immoveable rock among his
Intimate flock,

never to let a son walk in shame,
while he breathes and carries your name.
