SMALL POSSESSIONS

SMALL POSSESSIONS

A Poem by Rene Velez

We laid together,
talking about a world
without solidarity,

the ashtray overflowing,
clouds pouring its Sunday
rain, a room collecting
moments of togetherness,

small possessions we
would cherish, a beginning
slowly stalling to its end,

at time when you smiled,
eyes in wonder of a new love,
and you fearless in its wake,

there, hope shined
like the clouds opening
on that Sunday.
