CARDBOARD SHEETS

CARDBOARD SHEETS

A Poem by Rene Velez

Give me the decaying streets,
the homeless and their struggles,
huddled in cardboard sheets
the abandoned and the rubble,

I have no desire to see with
judgemental eyes, chastise
the meek, ashamed and deprived,

no need of illusions
for the finer things, exclusive
country clubs or the life of kings,

leave me in the extremes, where
an honest heart sings, near
the supreme and whatever it deems,

Show me the way that is humble
and pure, faith of the poor,
where the soul can endure.

Better to be homeless with a pure heart than live like a king with a haughty heart - great message
