MERCY

MERCY

A Poem by Rene Velez

I thought I was invincible,
countless like the sunrises,
timeless like the sunsets,
my
mortality far beyond reach,

love, a healer of all wounds,
we live, we breathe, reaching
for the brightest stars,

plans for a better day,
still the night comes for us,
sleep, in its forever song,

I am a witness, eyes
for those who have travelled
before me, brave is their
endeavor,

and if I am as brave
may I be a beginning
in the Maker's hands.
