UNHAPPINESS, IN THE FACE OF LOVEA Poem by Rene Velez
He was too selfish for love,
caught between unfulfilled dreams, demons inside he didn't see but continued to feed, too caught in sorrow no room for tomorrow and so he fell into the deepest, darkest well of his existence, and a light was there he never reached for, where love and assistance met a closed door, too proud for help a needle and belt, he felt, his only friends, between heavy lids and the bends, the burdens he bore, the sadness he wore, again and again, he would run from, a heart he never won, son he shunned and was never proud of, and in death he passed what he knew, unhappiness in the face of love, cold and destructive something his son would learn too. © 2018 Rene Velez |
