WALKING, MIA

WALKING, MIA

A Poem by Rene Velez

She always seems to
have something in her mouth,
sticking my fingers in her mouth
to pull things out,

sometimes I have to shout
and tell her to take it out,
and she does
leaving it where it was,
leaning her head to the side
when we meet eye to eye,
she may think she's sly
but not better than I,

even in her soft little whine,
I think she's divine and my
words are benign to her,

she is in it to feel free
every time she walks with me,
with her nose in the air,
free to go anywhere she likes,
morning, noon and night.
