THE DAYS WHEN WE WERE YOUNGA Poem by Rene Velez
I remember the gutted,
brick tenement buildings where we use to play hide and seek. I keep those childhood memories close to me. Within the reigns of poverty, we reached deep into our wealth of imagination. A bit of youthful creativity. Our intentions simple, feeling invincible against the day. To kingdoms far away, to escape the decay that held on us. The world in a rush. If the need, we'd forget to breathe, just to take the lead when we'd run. All in fun, in a place without none. The days when we were young. © 2017 Rene Velez |
