STARING AT THE WORLD

STARING AT THE WORLD

A Poem by Rene Velez

You have the softest skin
but your nerves unhinged,
sitting at the edge of your bed,
playing with your curls,
staring at the world,

and I could not see
beyond your walls,
the many falls I had taken
listening for your call,

always behind, never
catching your light,
I would fight the world for
your eyes to recognize me,

though it would not to be.
I had lost me with every
rebuttal, a blindfold while
unraveling, two souls traveling,
now on different paths...
alone...haphazardly.
