LOW KEY

LOW KEY

A Poem by Rene Velez
"

Tapped into my old hip hop vibe.

"

If I had to check I'd probably have
a thousand arrows in my back,
they, hugged up on the corner
talking s**t about me
when I was low key
building my stacks,

They over their reppin
west side, when I was moving weight
on my left side, the neighborhood
was rough but I never played the tough guy

I was about my paper since knee high
they were about sports, smokin blunts,
getting high on the basketball court,
I never seen one of them dudes fight
for pride, even when I fought for mine
and took a loss,

I was my own boss and played by my
own rules pops dropped the jewels,
so I built my own off his hustle cues
like clues,

them dudes really didn't know me,
how I moved cheese, wasn't nothing
they could show me, I only kicked it
with a few of them homeys who kept
it real with me on the battlefield, and
I'm still eating my meals...
F**k how a n***a feel.
