BELLE OF THE BALL

BELLE OF THE BALL

A Poem by Rene Velez

She wore many faces,
a closet full of shoes,
and outfits to choose,
important places to be,
important affairs,
a guest at high tea.

She clamoured for
a life of comfort and
wealth, losing herself
to superficial needs,
hoping to speed the
sound of wedding bells.

Belle of the ball
insecurties and all,
she wore like a shall,
and with every mademoiselle
her heart would swell,
and the greater her fall.

she wished for a life
of constant wealth,
losing herself
waiting for the call,
lost in grand halls,
and caring less about love,
most of all.
