LABELS

LABELS

A Poem by Rene Velez

Alphabetical order,
in rows upon a shelf,
a division, organized
for better recognition,

take what you need,
touch the mainstream,
undesirables in the back
unheard and unseen

steeped in illusions,
causing confusion
with less to love,
more to push and shove,
upon shameful acts
through
color and tradition
nudged to its fruition,

in division for better
recognition for one self,
high upon a shelf,

tangible it is,
we are taught as kids,
to live a certain way,
well arranged, though
we are better strange.
