NO APPEAL

NO APPEAL

A Poem by Rene Velez

So where do they go
to seek the knowledge
and continue to live and
grow?

above the cotton fields,
street deals, killing fields
only poor people know,

the uprooted tracks,
no longer a vehicle
of independence,
but a death sentence
a majority cannot appeal,

it is real to some
and to some ideal
to tip the scale
for futures to fail,
to falter on a trail,
only insolvents know.

Hard cold truth in the words. The emotions are heavy with this one. Powerful work.
