SHRAPNEL AND BLAMEA Poem by Rene Velez
They stampede
as if they are running with the bulls, but it is only smoke and debris, while some pull and others fall to their knees. In bewildered pleas they reach for clarity, wool over the eyes. Fear heightened by an evening sky. Ideals exchanged by shrapnel and blame, innocence in pain by the religiously trained. And when the smoke clears they leave a fear that one day, it may happen again. © 2016 Rene Velez |
