SILENCE CAN BE DEAFENING

SILENCE CAN BE DEAFENING

A Poem by Rene Velez

The silence can be deafening
and the view grand from the seats.
An echo stretched across an empty field
because pride is an abomination.

The ball should be still, and the actions
set in motion. They should choose to
make a stand, united in the same cause.

Quiet the Sunday cheers until the gun fire
rings no more, until the bodies no longer
litter the streets where the youth have no
choice but to survive.

Raise the flag and salute the brave
while they fight for freedom abroad.
Where no one sympathizes a second war
that Americans are fighting at home.
