FINGERPAINT

FINGERPAINT

A Poem by Rene Velez

I want to do something
with my life before I die,
and I'm dying. I'm dying
a little more each day.

Time is a terrible companion,
it sits with you. Silent.
Then leaves like a cruel
mistress, cold and uncaring.

Leaving us to meet death,
alone and defenseless.

I want to adorn the world
with words like fingerpaint.
Spread them like vibrant colors
upon a plain canvas.

Give back meaning to those
who have lost. Bring a child's
enthusiasm back into every breath,

and leave every reader in wide-eyed
wonder.
